Remembrance Day

Puffins spent some time learning about the importance of the Poppy as the symbol for Remembrance. We watched a video of the Queen laying a wreath at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday and we even spent some time sitting quietly at 11am for the 2 minute silence on Armistice Day. We completed an art speaking and listening activity where the children followed verbal instructions to make their own poppy from tissue paper which are now displayed beautifully on the field of poppies painted on the classroom window. For a second art activity and after looking at images of poppy fields and iconic Remembrance day photos, the children chose to paint, collage or use a mixture of the two to copy an image they had chosen as inspiration from the internet.
