Number bonds

We have started the year looking at number bonds, what a number bond is and how many number bonds there are, there are lots! We have used our knowledge of number bonds to make our own number word sentences for our friends to work out.

We have been learning to count in 2's, 3's, 5's and 10's and finding the missing numbers in various number sequences. They don't always start from 0 though! they can start from any number and sometimes they even go backwards!

Odd and Even

As a class we worked out that all even numbers end 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0 and all odd numbers end in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. We looked at numbers all the way up to 40 put them into categories of odd and even and worked out why each number is odd or even using the unifix cubes.

In our numeracy lessons we've been measuring lots of different objects, we started by measuring lots of penguins so we could learn to use the rulers correctly, then we estimated the height of various objects around the room, then used a metre stick to find the measurements of each item.
