The Relationship between The Kingsley Curriculum and Curriculum 14
Curriculum 14 is designed to “provide pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens” and as such the content is important for our pupils, however its structure it based on age related progression and this is not necessarily a useful framework for our pupils . Due to the nature of our pupils individual needs the acquisition of skills, knowledge and attitudes is not related to chronological age, but to developmental attainment. Thus, Kingsley’s Curriculum ensures we are able to deliver learning opportunities which respond to the next stage of the individual’s development rather than their age.
Skills and knowledge outlined in the New National Curriculum have thus been incorporated into our schemes of work, and will form part of the pupils learning when they reach the appropriate level of development.
